Position Overview
Q Engineering is seeking an experienced Building Design / Architectural Designer to prepare complete permit-ready drawings, BIM models, and 3D visualizations for residential, commercial, and institutional projects across Canada.
This remote role involves working closely with structural, mechanical, civil, grading, survey, and interior design teams to develop coordinated, functional, and code-compliant designs that meet municipal requirements and client expectations.
The ideal candidate has strong experience with Canadian or North American projects, advanced Revit skills, strong AutoCAD capability, and a solid understanding of building codes, zoning by-laws, and permit processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare complete permit-ready building design drawings using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Develop coordinated BIM models and high-quality 3D renderings.
- Prepare residential, commercial, and institutional permit drawing packages.
- Ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code, National Building Code of Canada, municipal zoning by-laws, and applicable standards.
- Respond to municipal review comments until permit approval.
- Coordinate drawings with structural, mechanical, civil, grading, survey, and interior design disciplines.
- Conduct zoning reviews and assist with preliminary feasibility studies.
- Prepare construction details, schedules, specifications, and permit documentation.
- Meet project schedules and maintain Q Engineering quality standards.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building Design, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of architectural design or building design experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience on Canadian or North American projects.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, National Building Code of Canada, municipal zoning by-laws, and permit processes.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit is mandatory.
- Strong AutoCAD skills are mandatory.
- Experience with 3D modelling and rendering software.
- Experience coordinating with structural, mechanical, civil, grading, survey, and interior design teams.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
- Excellent communication, organization, and coordination skills.
Working Conditions
- Hours of Work: 40+ hours per week or as agreed in the engagement agreement.
- Work Environment: Fully remote position using Microsoft Teams and cloud-based collaboration tools.
- Special Requirements: Reliable high-speed internet, a professional home office setup, ability to maintain confidentiality, and availability during agreed working hours.
